Case Study

Driving Innovation in Consumer Products

With an extensive list of household name products, our client is one of the fastest growing consumer packaged goods companies. For more than ten years, Joulé has provided comprehensive contingent workforce management for the company’s corporate office and multiple manufacturing facilities. As a single source provider, we have supported the company’s expansion through a labor management approach that reflects decades of expertise in the planning and execution of large-scale workforce programs.

Client Scenario

During a time of unprecedented growth, our client realized that it needed to tackle deficiencies in its recruiting and hiring practices head on. Due to outdated processes and poor data management, the leadership team had little visibility into the overall contract labor scope and spend. Hiring practices were inconsistent across the enterprise, and internal staff resources and systems were insufficient to handle the volume in a timely and cost-effective manner. The company sought an experienced partner who could not only advise them on contingent workforce management best practices, but could also provide strong execution to fill open requirements.

Joulé Solution

What started with a single placement for a laboratory technician has grown into an exclusive and comprehensive partnership for the company’s domestic hiring program. In 2003, the company issued an RFP for an onsite managed staffing provider (MSP) to run their contingent labor services program for technical and administrative personnel, representing an annual spend of more than $2 million. Based on a history of proven performance in technical and administrative skill sets, Joulé was awarded the contract.

In 2014, the client expanded the scope of work and solicited new bids. The previous year, Joulé had been acquired by System One and was able to leverage its additional expertise with large-scale managed staffing programs for the consumer products industry. Joulé was selected for the engagement, which now also included light industrial skillsets across multiple offices and plants.

We assembled an onsite management and dedicated recruiting team that is fully committed to efficiency, safety, and productivity within the client’s facilities. Working alongside the client, we redesigned and implemented a more streamlined requisition process and metrics tracking program. The staffing program covers diverse disciplines including scientific, engineering, and professional (average assignment length of one year) and manufacturing and administrative (average length three months). We’ve even taken a leadership role in administering the company’s summer employment and intern program, setting the stage to hire the next generation of dedicated employees.

Client Benefits

Joulé has developed a true partnership built on trust, open communication, and strong delivery. Because we operate in a highly independently manner – while remaining compliant to the client’s internal processes and standards – we have significantly reduced the time and burden placed on the client’s internal HR team. We consistently exceed expectations of speed and candidate quality, while constantly seeking ways to improve the bottom line. The client credits Joulé with helping them overcome significant challenges and building a roadmap for hiring efficiencies and future success.
